Theme: The Art of Water
Weekly Skill Focus: „I Can Shape, Flow, and Transform“
Inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, this week invites children to explore the nature of water — its flow, transformation, and sensory magic — while engaging in fine motor-rich, craft-based projects. Water becomes both a medium and a metaphor for process: adaptable, powerful, and full of possibility.
Monday: Water-Inspired Collage Lab
Children cut, tear, and layer translucent papers, cellophane, and textured materials to create flowing, wave-like collage art.
Focus Skills: Fine motor development through cutting and tearing, Visual-spatial awareness while layering materials, Creative expression using abstract, sensory elements.
Tuesday: Drift & Thread
Using string, beads, and fabric pieces that evoke water creatures and currents, children practice sewing and threading to create mobiles or hanging art.
Focus Skills: Hand-eye coordination through threading and sewing, Pattern recognition and planning, Patience and concentration during multi-step crafting.
Wednesday: Fold & Float
Exploring folding techniques with waterproof and natural materials, children design simple floating sculptures and test them in water.
Focus Skills: Basic engineering and problem-solving through testing buoyancy, understanding cause and effect (what floats, what sinks), Dexterity and control through paper and material folding.
Thursday: Stamp & Splash Studio
Children carve or construct stamps from sponges and soft materials, then explore pattern-making with watery paints, spray bottles, and absorbent paper.
Focus Skills: Sensory exploration through textures and water-based media, Creativity in pattern and repetition, Tool manipulation and early printmaking skills.
Friday: River Gallery & Group Water Mural
The morning is spent curating and displaying the week’s artwork in a “flowing” exhibition space. In the afternoon, children co-create a large collaborative mural using watery media like watercolor, ice cubes, and brushes — celebrating fluidity, color, and connection.
Focus Skills: Reflective thinking and pride in completed work, Collaboration and teamwork during the group mural, Exploration of color mixing and non-traditional painting techniques.
Our Camp Philosophy
Our Summer Camp is deeply inspired by the Reggio Emilia approach, which views children as curious, capable individuals who learn best through exploration, creativity, and meaningful relationships with the world around them. We believe that real skill-building happens when children are given time, space, and the tools to revisit ideas through hands-on play and repetition.
By offering a consistent rhythm to the day and returning to a central skill theme throughout the week, we allow children to deepen their understanding and gain confidence with each experience. Whether it’s working with clay, building with loose parts, or painting with natural materials, children are encouraged to express themselves in a hundred different ways — using their hands, hearts, and imaginations.
This camp is proudly screen-free, ensuring that every moment invites full-body engagement and real-world connection. From outdoor adventures to creative workshops, every part of the day supports rich, sensory learning and joyful discovery.
„Learning and teaching should not stand on opposite banks and just watch the river flow by; instead, they should embark together on a journey down the water.“
— Loris Malaguzzi, 1998, in The Hundred Languages of Children: The Reggio Emilia Approach
